Azores archipelago


The Azores archipelago is located in the North Atlantic Ocean, between latitudes 36º 55' and 39º 43'N and longitudes 24 46' and 31 16'W, at 1600 km from mainland Portugal. It consists of nine islands and several islets, which are distributed in three groups. 

São Miguel Island

The island of São Miguel, or the "Green Island", is the largest of the nine islands with an area of 747 km2 and with a total population of 131,609 inhabitants. This island is well known for its green landscapes, magnificent lagoons, historical monuments, tea factories, natural hot springs and most of all, its blue ocean. Has an international airport, just 10 minutes away from the city center, with direct connections to major European cities and also a major harbor for recreational and cruise ships crossing the Atlantic Ocean. 

Things to do....

The main activities in this island are hiking, sailing, diving, whale watching and mountain biking. Ponta Delgada is the main city of São Miguel island. It is a beautiful city with interesting cultural and historical sites such as the Santo Cristo’s Church, the old part of the town called “Portas da cidade” and Carlos Machado Museum. It also has a city mall, lots of coffee shops, pubs and bars with live music in the weekends.
